Human Source Collection & In-Jurisdiction Investigations

We conduct site visits, human source interviews and local-jurisdiction intelligence collection around the world.

The purpose is to determine whether a potential joint venture partner could pose a future risk to the reputation or operations of our clients. A relatively small investment at the front end can define the risks involved, and may ultimately prevent a costly mistake.

For human source collection we maintain direct access to sources across multiple sectors and industries, including journalists, executives, government employees and private sector employees.

Our open source collection methods protect the identities of our clients and analysts. We focus on unique data that goes beyond traditional searches — metadata, postings tangential to the subject of inquiry, and data sets that are not indexed by search engines. Depending on scope, we may analyse the deep web, dark web, social media, news organisations, and proprietary sources available to licensed private investigators.

When clients engage us

Engagements typically involve assessing a counterparty in a jurisdiction where public records are unreliable or unavailable, verifying that an entity and its facilities exist and operate as represented, and supporting litigation or law enforcement matters that require work on the ground.

Case examples

Criminal investigation support

We have helped law enforcement solve difficult criminal cases, including missing persons and human trafficking matters, using digital forensics and open source collection techniques not typically available to a law enforcement officer. Other support has included link analysis between two seemingly separate criminal incidents on a client’s property, enabling risk and security decisions.

Litigation support and asset tracking

After a major settlement award, assets were moved out of the defendant’s entity into unrelated offshore entities to obscure their value. We moved quickly to identify the new entities, locate the assets, and provide counsel with hard facts to inform future proceedings.
